Bariatric Surgery/RNY...again.

Question
Hello Dr.,

I wrote to you back in February when I was considering a bariatric revision of a RNY surgery I had 15 years ago. After gaining half of my weight back, I felt like a failure. I saw an excellent bariatric surgeon at Duke who evaluated me clinically and then agreed to do the surgery. My surgery was last Wednesday and was the surgeon surprised at what he found: My "pouch" was the size of two mens fists. I also had developed a small fistula. The original stoma was quite large as well. My new pouch is now the size of a golf ball and I am now hoping to lose all that weight I regained.

Answer
Anita,
Thanks for the follow up, and I'm glad that things seem to have gone well!  The fact that your surgeon was able to make such a dramatic change (finding your previous stomach so large) suggests that you have an excellent chance to lose a lot of weight.

Best wishes,
Dr JP
