Bariatric Surgery/Fistula

Question
I had bypass surgery in July 2005 and made good weight loss up to january 2006 when i fell through achir in a waiting room. I experienced blood in my stools and some vomitted. since then my weight loss ceased. A barium meal xray revealed that a fistula has developed between my old stomach and new and the bypass is redundant.
It was quite a heavy fall which 2crouched me up" winding me in the process. could this have caused or contributed to teh fistula.

Regards

TC

Answer
Terry,
I'm sure that fall through the chair was painful in multiple ways.  However, I would be really surprised if any kind of external trauma caused a fistula or caused the bypass to be "redundant" (redundant could mean many different things).

It is more likely that the problems you are asking about are directly related to the surgery, and unfortunately these are known problems that can arise even when the surgeon and the patient do the right thing all the way through.

Best of luck,
Dr JP
