Bariatric Surgery/Gastric Sleeve

Question
I have the gastric sleeve on August 1st.  Since then I still experience nausea and inability to eat.  I seem to have a lot of air (not exactly gas).  It seems like there is a lot of air in my stomach and it keeps me from eating.  I've tried simethicone which helps a little but food and liquid intake is poor.  My friend who had surgery at the same time is doing far better and can eat most anything that she tries.  I seem to be loosing ground.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Cindy,
The symptoms you are describing are within the spectrum of what is seen after gastric sleeve, even though your friend is having a different experience.

Even so, I recommend you make an earlier follow up appointment with your surgeon to talk to him/her, and see what they think.  In the meantime, make sure you drink small amounts of fluid very frequently to stay hydrated.

Best wishes,
Dr JP
