Baseball Instruction/Scoring an RBI

Question
With a runner at third base, batter hits a ground ball and is thrown out at first. 1st baseman throws home in time to get runner but catcher drops ball due to hard slide knocking the ball out of the glove.
Is the batter credited with an rbi?
Thanks

Answer
Danny,

If an error is scored on the play, then there is no RBI awarded.  If the official scorer doesn't believe the ground out (in their judgement) was enough to get the runner home, then no RBI is awarded.  Almost always, though, if no error is scored, the batter would get an RBI.

Hope this helps!
