Baseball Instruction/The roll

Question
My son is 7 and in his first year of kid pitch (he has 3 full seasons of t-ball-1  & machine pitch-2). He is afraid of the ball (both fielding & hitting). In the field he can catch good but shifts his body away from the ball. Any advice on this? Batting he steps out as soon as the pitcher starts his wind up. Can you explain what the "Roll" is? I saw you mention it in another person's response. Thanks. Jim

Answer
You can teach him how to roll but if I where you I would just teach him how to hit and field correctly and try to give him confidence that way.If he continues to play the fear will go away.He has plenty of time to go in baseball life.Just keep encouraging him and giving him good instruction and when he gets over the fear he will know how to do everything.
