Our son who just turned 10 has played baseball from Teeball until now. This is his second year in the minor leagues (age 9 - 10).  The fun of playing the game has disappeared at this level with it being primarily a pitcher - catcher type of game.  Most of the kids get on base with walks. Several are afraid to swing the bat.  Runs are scored on steals and very few hits or plays are made in the field.  Our son is both a pitcher and a catcher and is still not having fun. He is a decent player, but is his own worst enemy.  He was stressed out last night on the mound and threw a lot of wild pitches by trying to throw too hard.  The ironic thing is his team was winning 16 - 3.  He has said the game is only fun when they win, but then last night, that wasn't the case.  I have talked to him about it and have never pushed him to play, but will also not let him quit mid-season.  Have you seen this before in other kids?  What's the best way to handle a kid who has lost the joy in playing?  Your advice or perspective would be most appreciated.

I think you may want to try to get him in a more competitive league.Try finding a select team in your area.The way I would try to get through to him is to let him know if he wants to pitch he cannot loose his head.Have him watch big league pitchers and ask him to watch and see if any of the guys act like him on the mound.
