Baseball Instruction/Baserunning

Question
Situation: There is one out or no outs and a runner at second and third. The batter misses a suicide and the third base runner is caught in run down.  Question: Should the runner at second advance to third and give up the runner or should he stay at second giving up having a third base runner if they get the runner out which is more than likely??

Answer
Jerry,
I would keep the runner at second base.  Depending on the level of play you are talking about.  If the runner gets to third he will still need a ball through the infield to score, which if on second he can score on a basehit to the outfield.  Most upper level teams will be able to cut a runner down trying to score on a routine infield hit.
