Question
If a baserunner is hit by a thrown ball and he is not interfearing with the thrown ball, I.E. if batter bunts and on the way to first, he is hit in the back by the thrown ball of the catcher, is he out or does he automatically get to take the base?

Answer
Pat,

The ball is live and the runner is neither out or safe.  The runner must keep running while the fielders are allowed to pick up the ball and try and put them out.

Often, if the runner is hit with a thrown ball, the fielder may be charged with an error because they have made a bad throw.

Hope this helps!

Brian
