Baseball Instruction - Arm Strength

Expert: Brian Flaspohler - 9/20/2008

Question
My son is 7 almost (8 in Nov.).  He plays 2b most of the time, a little outfield and short.  He is being overlooked because of is arm strength.  Will his arm strength come over time or is there something we can do to help it along faster?  Thank you for yourr time.

Answer
Brock,

Just make sure that you son practices throwing.  Not just catch, but long throws.  He shouldn't do a lot (given his age) or practice pitching at all (especially curve balls), but the practice will help him develop strength.

By the way, eight is a little young for coaches to be ignoring the kids.  They should be playing everyone.  I wouldn't worry too much about him being ignored.  Just play with him and he'll get better.

Hope this helps!
