Question
Hi, im 6'1, 180 and im 19 yrs old. I throw about 85 now and wanted to know
how i can gain velocity. Im going to be trying out for a college team and i think
this will help increase my chances on making the squad

Answer
Chris,
To gain velocity there are a couple of things you can do.  Number one is to make sure you have perfect mechanics.  Improve your flexibility will help improve strength and quickness.  Strength train and focus on the legs and core muscles.  Long toss will help with strength and speed.  Make sure you have a change up, this will make your fastball appear faster.  Everyone at the college level can hit a fastball but you need to keep them off balance with a good change up.  If you don't have a good change up then the fast ball will not be effective no matter how fast you throw.

Good Luck,
