Question
My son sge 10 asked me if a runner and the baseman who catches the ball reach the base at the same time, does the tie go to the runner?  Hopefully this makes sense.  Thank you.

Answer
Dixie,

According to Official Baseball Rules (OBR, the rules used by Major League Baseball):

7.01 A runner acquires the right to an unoccupied base when he touches it before he is out.

In a tie, the runner does not touch the base before he's out, therefore he would be out.

In actuality, however, there are no ties. It is up to the umpire to decide whether the out occurred before the runner touches the base.
