Baseball Instruction/Extra Base Question

Question
The play was the right fielder caught a fly ball and tried to double up the runner at 1B. The throw went of bounds, is it 1 or 2 bases for the runner? There was also a runner at 2B, does he get to score? Thanks

Answer
Towson,

Each runner, without liability to be put out, advances two bases when a thrown ball goes into the stands.  Bases are awarded by the position of the runners at the time the ball went out of play.  So in this case, the runner at 2nd would be awarded 3rd and home, and the runner at 1st would be awarded 2nd and 3rd.

I hope this has helped.  Should you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
