Baseball Instruction/minimum age requirements

Question
As a board member of our local little league I am struggling with an age issue.  While I realize majors are classified as 9 - 12 year olds, I have an 8 year old player that is out of this world.  Do you know if it is even possible for us to consider moving him into the major division? I believe physically he could handle the majors however I don't agree that emotionally he should be hanging out in the dug out with 12 year olds.

Answer
Christi,

The Little League Regulations state that a player league age 8 cannot participate in the Major Baseball Division.  However, the 8 year old can participate with children in the Minor Division.  This also depends on your league's determination on division age structure.

You can take this matter to the Board of Directors and if they so wish, they can request in writing to the International Charter Committee that an exception be made to allow this player to advance to the Major division.  It would then be up to the Charter Committee to decided if the child will play in Majors.

I hope this has helped.  Should you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
