Question
QUESTION: Batter hits a shot in the gap, misses first and stops at 2nd. Defense appeals that he missed first base; Umpire agrees and calls him out. How is this scored??

ANSWER: Greg,

Batter is out (all runners return to their bases).  Putout goes to the first baseman - no assist.

Hope this helps!

QUESTION: Thanks Brian,

Is it scored as far as the stats as a basehit for the batter or how is it scored stat wise??

         GREG

Answer
Greg,

It does not count as a hit because the batter never officially reached first base.  If the batter hit a shot in the gap and ended with a triple (missing 2nd base) then that would be scored a single and any runners would be able to advance one base.

Hope this helps!
