Baseball Instruction - daughter throws side arm

Expert: John McInnis - 6/29/2009

Question
My daughter throws side arm or short arm. I cannot get her to throw over the top. Any recommended drills to cure this?

Answer
Hi Jim,

does she throw side arm when she is playing catch?  Have her review the proper steps in throwing pitches. Go slow as she is probably more comfortable with the side arm pitch.

If she throws side arm with throwing long balls to the outfield, then you may have a problem.

Consider sending her to a pitching expert to show her the proper mechanics of the pitch.  For a modest fee, I'm sure they'd help her break this habit.  Consider also that she is more comfortable with side arm and it won't be easy to stop that habit.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
