Question
How do you record a batter that is stepping out of the batter's box? I know he is out, so what is the right way to record it on the score sheet?

Answer
Suzanne:  You are correct, the batter is out.  The putout goes to the catcher, as he is the closest fielder to the play, recorded with a U-2 in the book.

It is the same for a batted ball which hits a runner, the runner is out and the put out goes to the closest fielder to the play.
