Baseball Instruction/Pitching rules

Question
In a recent cubs game, they pulled the pitcher and placed him in the field, another pitcher came in and pitched to a couple batters, then the first pitcher came back in to pitch.
I was looking to see what the rule is for this?

Answer
Bill,

This is allowed:

Rule 3.03 Comment: A pitcher may change to another position only once during the same inning; e.g. the pitcher will not be allowed to assume a position other than a pitcher more than once in the same inning.

The pitcher only changed to one non-pitching spot during the inning. Therefore, he is allowed to return as the pitcher later in the inning (or another inning).
