Baseball Instruction/Umpiring baseball mechanics

Question
Hi. I umpire baseball for high schools. I just started to get back into it after a 15 year lay off. I am 40.

My question is that when I umpire behind the plate I hold the indictor in my right hand. Does it really matter what hand you hold the indictor as long as you take the mask off with your left hand?

Answer
A professional umpire will always use his LEFT hand....Make it work, Indicators are designed for left hands, using your right hand is like writing backwards.....You can still lift your mask w/ the left hand also....Nothing should be in your right hand whatsoever....

Great question.....Andy
