Question
2 strikes on the batter, the runner on 2nd is steeling 3rd, Pitcher pitches, umpire call strike 3. Catcher attempts throw to 3rd to get runner steeling, the ball hits the batters bat.  Our umpire said it was interferience and sent runner back to 2nd stating he had to attempt to get out of the way.  I say not enough time for batter to react.  He was still clearly in batter box.  Catchers fault right? Runner should be allowed 3rd base.

Answer
Bill,

This is an umpire judgment call.  If the batter is not intentionally in the way and is still in the batter's box, I agree with you - the runner should be safe at third.  But this depends on if the umpire feels the batter interfered on purpose.

Hope this helps!
