Baseball Instruction/foul ball

Question
Andrew,
A batted ball hits behind the plate(foul territory?) and rolls back over the plate, where the catcher touches it.  Fair or foul?  Thanks for your help.

Answer
The definition of a foul ball is "a ball that passes first or third base in foul territory, or a ball that comes to rest in foul territory, or is touched in foul territory by a defensive player".  Once it rolls over the plate & the catcher touches it (which would be in fair territory), the batter runner better be moving.  It's a fair ball.

It's the same concept of a batted ball towards first that hits outside the foul line first then rolls into fair territory.  Has no bearing on where the ball hits, it's the end result.

Hope this helped....

Thanks, Andy
