Baseball Instruction/tie game/extra innings

Question
I'm a commissioner for 9-10 & 11-12yo Dixie Youth. Home team showed score of 7v-6h, visitors showed 7-7, umpire called the game declaring visitors winners. Teams shook hands, left dugout, then home team found discrepancy. Umpire required another inning played. Resulted in visitors still winning after a 3hr15min game. Was the umpire correct to require another inning or was the game officially over? Thanks.

Answer
Randy,

I am not familiar with Dixie Youth rules, but I will give you the Umpire Common Sense comment.

Get it right.

If the umpire got it right and played the next inning because that was what needed to be done after finding the discrepancy, then play it.  To me, it looks like it just took a little longer in between innings to get it correct, that's all.

It also would depend on your local ground rules.  In my Little League program, it is the home team who keeps the official scorebook, and therefore, if there was a discrepancy between the two teams regarding score, then we would go to the home book.

I hope this has helped.
