Here's something that may work- tell his family to stay home at game time. If my parents were at my games, my at bats suffered. If they weren't present, going 3 for 4 or 4 for 4 was the norm. Also, a player should eat something before gametime. Having butterflies before the game is normal but eating will help. If he really want to get good have him play ball with players that are 3-5 years older if they give him a chance. Sure he'll be the worst player there but it's better than playing with hotwheels or whatever.
