Baseball Instruction/ERA

Question
I was looking at the boxscore from yesterday's LL game between NY and Wa. D.C. There were no erros in the game, NY won 2-0 and the Wa. D.C. pitcher gave up no earned runs. How is that possible? There were a couple of passed balls by Wa. D.C. and there were no RBI's. Passed balls are not errors but do they count as "errors" when calculating a pitcher's ERA?

Answer
Dave,

A passed ball does count as an error for calculating pitcher's ERA.  If the passed ball allows a run to score that wouldn't have scored given the remaining results in the inning, then the run is considered unearned.

To have two runs scored against your team in this way hurts!

Hope this helps!
