Baseball Instruction/Firstbase mitts

Question
What are the benefits of a Firstbase mitt Vs. a regular fielders glove?  Why can it not be worn at anyother position than 1st or behind the plate (slowpitch)?

Answer
Kelly,

By the major league rules, the first baseman's glove can be larger then is allowed by other gloves.  So it is against the rules to use it at other positions.

Other than that, the difference is that the glove was designed for catching a thrown ball.  It could be used at other positions (if it didn't violate the length rule), but it isn't designed to be the best glove for those positions.

Hope this helps!
