Question I am a former college football quarterback. I have a pretty strong arm, football wise. I have attempted to throw a baseball recently, just for the hec of it and I was clocked at around 75 mph. How much improvement could I make if I worked out hard for about 11 months, throwing a lot everyday, lifting, stretching, etc.? My size is 6'5", and I weight 230. Any help would be much appreciated. I have a great drive, and will outwork anyone.
Answer Tyler, to answer your question I would have to ask several questions. 1.Have you ever pitched before? 2. Are you left haned? 3.Are you very muscular in the chest and shoulder areas? As you have found out, throwing a football and a baseball are to totally different things. Yopu ask can you become a pitcher? I would never say never. Is the road going to be hard? Very. What you can begin to do is to start a throwing program. Start by throwing close and looseing your arm.As your arm loosens back up until you are long tossing. When long tossing, make sure you finish with your hand almost touching the ground. This will help you not stop your arm to soon and that would put more stress on your arm.Long toss for a good 5-10 min. to start out.I would do this for at least 3 days a week. The more you throw the stronger your arm will become. Will you get to throwing 90mph? I really dont no that question.I think if you have it, then it will come out.If it is not in you it wont come out. Also make sure you do a lot of stretching. After throwing I would do whats called hanging.Grab hold of say a chin up bar bend knees and hang. This will stretch or muscles out .I hope this can get you on your way.Anymore questions please ask. Thanks for your time.
