Baseball Instruction/Saves

Question
What is a save in baseball?

Answer
Bill,

Only a pitcher that finishes the game (and isn't awarded a win) may receive a save. They get a save if they meet any one of the following three conditions:

1) Pitch three innings,
2) Pitch one inning with their team leading by three runs or fewer, or
3) Pitch when the tying or winning run is on base, at bat, or on deck.

The statistic is meant to measure a pitcher's ability to close out (save) a game when their team is winning.

Hope this helps!
