Baseball Instruction - Youth Baseball Mental Block

Question
Hi!  My question revolves around my 8 year olds son.  I have seen him hit beautiful homerun balls in the backyard and at the place where we take him for professional instruction.  He can easily hit every fastball thrown to him.  The problem lies in the game.  About half way through the season he stopped hitting the fences and he cant seem to hit anything.  Everyone always says his swing looks beautiful, if he were to connect it would be outta here.  We encourage him to keep trying and do not pressure him at all.  We try to focus on the good parts of the game and praise him for his efforts.  I just cannot understand why at professional practice he hits everything and in the game nothing.  I figure he has some kind of mental block or something?  Have you ever come across this?  And how do we get him out of this pattern.  He is a very serious kid by nature and I feel that he is being to hard on himself.

Answer
One thing you may watch is in practice is the instructor throwing the ball in your sons hitting zone?Is that the reason he hits everything?I can make any kid look good at practice because I know where to throw the ball that they can hit.In the game the ball is around(his)zone. But the key is he is 8.Keep him playing and in reality that is what players do.They go in and out of hitting streaks at all levels.Just keep him working and keep him in couraged. Is he swinging at bad pitches?
