What is the duties of a bench coach.  Who does he coach?

A bench coach is basically another baseball mind the manager can bounce decisions off of in the dugout.  Typically it seems to be a more honorary position - the Cardinal's had Red Shoendienst for a long time and the Yankees use Joe Torre.

So he doesn't really coach anyone - it basically is up to the manager to determine the function of that guy.
