Question
Hi,
I can play in rec leagues without being nervous in the game. When playing for a school team or non rec team, I become nervous and have trouble hitting and fielding. When not nervous, I'm really good. Do you know how to break my nervousness. Thanks

Ray

Answer
Ray, it sounds like to me you dont have the same confidence in the team games as you do in the rec games. So lets ask what is causing this?Is it because you are putting to much pressure on yourself to be perfect. Is it because you dont feel you are good enough to play on that level?Only you can look inside your self to find the answers or answer.I would look into what are the things you do in rec ball that you dont do in league ball?Meaning, how you prepare yourself for the game.Alot of times kids who perform well in rec ball dont perform well in league or select ball is because they have not worked on doing things the right way.For instance you can catch a ground ball between your legs in rec ball and throw the kid out.But you get to league ball and you field the ball in between your legs and because they hit the ball a little harder, the game means a little more you may tend to bobble the ball. What I'm trying to say is this, sometime in rec ball its not how you catch the ball(bad mechanics)the coach is happy you caught it.The difference in players playing  rec ball and school ball is work habits. Are you working on your game hard enough so that when you walk out on the field you are confident in your game because you know that you have put a lot of time into making sure you are ready for the game.
