Question
My son will be 10 years old soon and is pitching on a competitive AAA Major team. My question is how many pitches during the week should he throw when we practice?  What is a good routine, warm up then fast balls then change ups or can you suggest a good routine for practicing at home?  I don't want him to throw too many pitches or injure his arm.  What do you suggest?

Answer
Hey Rebecca,

Start off with about 30-40 pitches every other day. 20-25 at medium fast speed and the last 10 or 15 at top speed.. No change ups, and definitely no curves.  At his age, fast ball and change ups are all he should be using.. Have him throw to spots.  In tight and low outside corners.  If he has no arm soreness, then he can up the count by 10-15 pitches per session.. Do not over due it.
If you want some drills on the off days, go to http://www.thecompletepitcher.com/pitching_drills.htm
GOOD LUCK !
