Baseball Trivia (General)/Rule Question on Double Steal

Question
Tom:  BASEBALL SCORING Q:   Runners at first and third with two outs.  Runner at first has NO wheels but takes off to intentionally get into a rundown, allowing the man to score from third.  Worked to perfection---not even a throw home as runner scored standing up well before other guy was tagged out for third out.   STOLEN BASE?  Official scorer said no.  I say yes.  Runner at 3B didn't break for home until catcher threw to 2B. What do YOU say?

Answer
Wayne,

Good question. I agree with the ump. If the runner on third breaks upon the pitch as did the runner on first, it would be a steal if he's safe at the plate. The way you describe the play, the runner on third scores during the run-down, essentially on a fielder's choice. Not a steal, in my opinion.
