Baseball Trivia (General) - official pitch count

Expert: Patrick Clevenger - 7/16/2008

Question
Do two-strike foul balls count towards the pitchers official pitch count even though they don't count against the hitter? If so, are they recorded as strikes, balls, or something else?

Answer
Any ball that the pitcher throws to home plate in the course of an at-bat is considered as part of the pitch count.  Any pitch fouled off by the batter after two strikes is not counted against the batter, but still contributes to the pitchers pitch count.

Sorry, it took so long to get back, but I was out of town all last week.
