Baseball Trivia (General)/Pitched No-Hitter But Got Shut Out and Lost

Question
Heard of a game some years ago, maybe 10 or so, where the winning pitcher had a shutout and the looser had a no hitter. Did I imagine that or what teams/ pitchers was it?

Answer
Dennis,

This has actually happened twice since 1956. Below are the pitchers who pitched a no-hitter but got shut out and lost the game. (There are a couple of other pitchers who pitched no-hitters and lost, but were not on the losing end of a shutout.) Note that Andy Hawkins pitched his no-hitter on the road, so he only pitched 8 innings, which according to the rules now, is not an official no-hitter (an insane interpretation, but there you are). The only pitcher to throw and 9-inning no-hitter and lose was Ken Johnson of the Astros.

Andy Hawkins      1990-07-01    NYY @CHW L  0-4  CG 8
Ken Johnson       1964-04-23    HOU  CIN L  0-1  CG 9

Just for the record, there was another pitcher, Charles King, who played for the Chicago Pirates in the Players League, who on June 1, 1890, pitched an 8-inning no-hitter against the Brooklyn Ward's Wonders and lost 1-0.
