What's the most at bats Ted Williams went w/o getting a hit?

Apparently Ted went 0 for 20 at bats, but I cannot tell you when that was. The source of this information (http://dugoutcentral.com/blog/?p=1557) was a conversation with Williams, but does not indicate when this happened, although I know it was before 1956.

I can verify that he had streak of 17 at bats without a hit between June 6-10, 1959.
