Baseball Trivia (General) - Career HR Leaders, Switch Hitters

Expert: Tom Schott - 4/26/2009

Question
I have been told these two ball players represent each league for homers as switch hitters.
American League - Mickey Mantle
National League - Pete Rose

Is this a true statistic?

Clearly Mantle is a run away with the AL.
Who could be close?
Who could be second to Rose?

Thanks

Steve

Answer
Steve,

Only partially true.

In the National League, the top two guys are: Chipper Jones, 408 home runs, and Lance Berkman, 292.

In the American League, it's Mickey Mantle, 536, and Eddie Murray with 396.

By the way, there are an additional six guys ahead of Pete Rose (161) in career home runs in the National League: Bobby Bonilla (247), Ken Caminiti (230), Howard Johnson (209), Todd Hundley (202), Ted Simmons (182), and Reggie Smith (165).
