AboutTom Schott Expertise I will deal with the major leagues only from 19th century to present. I`m good on baseball history, records, statistics, ballparks. I don't do off-the-field stuff. Please if you already know the answer to the question, please don't ask it. I don't want to play "stump the expert."
Experience I've written on the subject, and I have substantial library of resources.

Publications Numerous encyclopedia, newspaper, magazine articles. One book, several book chapters.
Question I have been told these two ball players represent each league for homers as switch hitters.
American League - Mickey Mantle
National League - Pete Rose
Is this a true statistic?
Clearly Mantle is a run away with the AL.
Who could be close?
Who could be second to Rose?
Thanks
Steve
Answer Steve,
Only partially true.
In the National League, the top two guys are: Chipper Jones, 408 home runs, and Lance Berkman, 292.
In the American League, it's Mickey Mantle, 536, and Eddie Murray with 396.
By the way, there are an additional six guys ahead of Pete Rose (161) in career home runs in the National League: Bobby Bonilla (247), Ken Caminiti (230), Howard Johnson (209), Todd Hundley (202), Ted Simmons (182), and Reggie Smith (165).
