Question In the beginning of the game the line up card is given out to the opposing team. Booby Jo is in the number 5 spot but, never showed up for the game. Number 6 takes her place at the plate. The opposing coach catches the infaction and informes the plate offical. Would the # 5 player be called out since she is in the original line up?
Answer yup...but the coach needs to let the at-bat play out as something good could come of #6's at bat(a double play perhaps)...the coach has the option of taking the play or the out(in case #6 singles, etc)however, if the coach of the team at bat informs the umpire that #6 is now batting for #5 then nothing happens as #6 is now just a substitute for #5
