AboutTom Schott Expertise I will deal with the major leagues only from 19th century to present. I`m good on baseball history, records, statistics, ballparks. I don't do off-the-field stuff. Please if you already know the answer to the question, please don't ask it. I don't want to play "stump the expert."

Question Angels vs Royals. 5/9/09 Both pitchers winning *& losing have a complete game. Has that ever happened before? Thank you for your help
Hayden
Answer Hayden,
This has happened thousands upon of times. It was quite common in baseball before the rise of relief pitching in the 1960s and all the specialization in pitchers that has occurred in the modern era. It used to be that there was no such thing as a "closer," and starting pitchers were expected to pitch the entire game, even long into extra innings.
