Baseball Trivia (General) - Hitting for the cycle

Expert: Ed Spindler - 5/16/2009

Question
player on first with 2 outs and batter hit ball in the gap, Player on first scores the winning run before hitter touched third but is clearly a triple.....is that counted as a triple to complete the cycle?

Answer
yup...

it's a triple because the runner was on 1st base...if he would have been on 2nd base and the ball would no doubt have been a triple he is out of luck...he would be awarded a double...

batter is credited with the number of bases it took to score the runner...in this case 3 bases...

the only exception is a homerun...then ALL runs are counted

hope that clears it up
