Baseball Trivia (General) - World Series rings

Expert: Tom Schott - 7/2/2009

Question
How much money does MLB spend each year on World Series rings?

Answer
Pam,

It's not MLB that spends the money, but the World Series winner. And the price for the rings can vary widely, and the estimates of the cost also vary. And the total cost depends on the total number of rings a team orders.

The Phillies last year spent about $6-9,000 on rings for their team, 37 players plus several categories of others. See

The Boston Red Sox in 2005 paid over $40,000 apiece for almost 500 rings. Do the math. Some years before, the Marlins paid $46,000 apiece for their team's rings. In 2007, the Red Sox rings cost about $20,000 apiece.

and the link therein.

Bottom line is it costs the winning team a pile of money . . . how big a pile is its call.
