Question Hello, could you please let me know what is the biggest hits differential where a losing team had more hits than the winner.
Ex. Yankees beat Phillies 5-0 but Phillies had 20 hits, Yankees 5
Thank you for your help
Answer Daniel,
Interesting question. The largest gap I could find since 1954 between a loser with more hits than winners in a game is 10. There may have been another instance earlier, but my data is only good for 1954-present. There were five instances of this happening during that time:
Baltimore 5 runs, 16 hits - Oakland 8 runs, 6 hits April 28, 1979
Montreal 4 runs, 6 hits - Atlanta 3 runs, 16 hits April 26, 1980
Montreal 7 runs, 17 hits - San Francisco, 8 runs, 7 hits May 12, 1984
Los Angeles (A) 9 runs, 19 hits - Baltimore, 11 runs, 9 hits July 15, 1989
Detroit 3 runs, 16 hits - Kansas City 6 runs, 6 hits August 28, 2007
