Question
Tom,
This is a question that covers a few categories. Maxim magazine published an article about a red sox pitcher who spent a night partying with a local gangster without going to sleep he pitched the next day and threw a no hitter. I have read the article before but I am trying to find it again. I cannot not seem to find it anywhere. If you have any information that would help I would appreciate it. Name of pitcher, which issue it was in, etc.. If I remember correctly the story took place around the 50's or 60's. Thank you.

Answer
Hello, David,

There were four Red Sox no-hitters thrown from 1950 to 1970. None of them, as far as I can discern, involved anything like the circumstances you describe. The four no-hit pitchers were:

Mel Parnell   7/14/56
Earl Wilson   6/26/62
Bill Mombouquette  8/1/62
Dave Morehead   9/16/65

I think the article you read was fanciful.
