Question
How many 4 game sweeps have there been in the world series?

Answer
Richard,

There have been 17 total. Only two teams have swept the Series in four games more than once: the New York Yankees, 8 times (1927, 1928, 1932, 1938, 1939, 1950, 1998, 1999), and the Cincinnati Reds, twice (1976, 1990). Other teams that have swept the Series in four are: Boston Braves (1914), New York Giants (1954), LA Dodgers (1963), Baltimore Orioles (1966), Oakland A's (1989), Boston Red Sox (2004), and the Chicago White Sox (2005).

If you're counting, you will see that the National League team has been able to sweep the Series only five times since 1903. Losers of four game Series are interesting, too. Only three teams have been swept twice: New York Yankees (1963, 1976), St. Louis Cards (1928, 2004), and the Chicago Cubs (1932, 1938). Just to be complete I might as well list the other losing teams: Philadelphia A's (1914), Pittsburgh Pirates (1927), Cincinnati Reds (1939), Philadelphia Phillies (1950), Cleveland Indians (1954), LA Dodgers (1966), San Francisco Giants (1989), Oakland A's (1990), San Diego Padres (1998), Atlanta Braves (1999), Houston Astros (2005).

Cheers,
Tom
