Baseball Trivia (General) - 9th Inning 2-out Rallies

Expert: Jamie Selko - 7/24/2007

Question
What is the most runs scored in the bottom of the 9th inning with two outs?

Answer
Howdy- the record is ... 9 runs, done three times: Cleveland vs. Washington, 23 May, 1901 (came from way behind to win, 14-13); Boston vs. Milwaukee, 2 June, 1901; Cleveland vs. New York, 4 August, 1923.  The N.L. record is 7 runs, done twice: Chicago vs. Cincinnati, 29 June, 1952 (came from behind to win, 9-8); San Francisco vs. Pittsburgh, 1 May, 1973 (came from behind to win 9-8).
And here's another interesting tidbit for you: both of the 9-run innings came, not only with two out, but with nobody on base!
