Question Who holds the record for most base runners thrown out at second base in a row. I was told Johnny Beach with 173?
Answer Howdy- As far as I know, that stat is not an "official" stat. Now, Elias may have info on that, but Elias is notorious for NOT releasing info to fans. I do know, however, that the 173 is WAY wrong- that would imply that NO bases were stolen against the Reds for over a year, and that, of course, is in error. I would even doubt that it is as many as 73 (or 37, for that matter), for every one knows that most bases are stolen off of pitchers, and Mr. Bench could not control his pitchers moves to first or how good they were at holding runners on. Even if he threw out 90% of would-be-thieves (and no one approaches that level of success, 50% being considered a good figure), that would mean that ten of a hundred would succeed.
