Question
If hitting for the cycle in order, single, double, etc. is a natural, what is the opposite order called? HR, triple, dbl, single AND, has it been done?

Answer
Hi Mike,

Thanks for writing.

The cycle has been completed over 250 times in Major League history.  13 of those cycles have been done in the "natural" order: single, double, triple, home run.

There are only 24 different orders in which to hit for the cycle:

single, double, triple, home run
single, triple, home run, double
single, home run, double, triple
etc.

So with only 24 possible combinations and over 250 achievements it is safe to conclude that every possible combination has been achieved at least once, with an average of about 10 per combination.

There is no name for hitting for the cycle in any other order.

Best Wishes,

Geoff
