About Tom Schott
Expertise
I will deal with the major leagues only from 19th century to present. I`m good on baseball history, records, statistics, ballparks. Try to stick to on-the-field stuff. I`m not interested in personal off-the-field stuff like spouses, girl friends, drug habits, salaries, mascots, etc. If you already know the answer to the question, please don't ask it. I don't want to play "stump the expert."

Experience
I've written on the subject, and I have substantial library of resources.

Publications
Numerous encyclopedia, newspaper, magazine articles. One book, several book chapters.

Education/Credentials
Ph.D. in American history.

Awards and Honors
Bevy of writing awards.

Baseball Trivia (General) - Consecutive at-bays with hit

Expert: Tom Schott - 7/18/2007

Question
Ty Wigginton tonight (7/17/07) tied the Devil Rays record with eight consecutive at-bats with a hit.  Who holds the Major League record?

Answer
Steve,

The major league record for most consecutive ABs with a hit is 12. Held by two hitters in the American League.

   Pinky Higgins, Boston, June 19, 19, 21, 21, 1938 (2 BB)
Walt Dropo, Detroit, July 14, 15, 15, 1952 (no BB)

FYI, the National League record is 10, held by 10 hitters. The last to do it was: Bip Roberts, Cincinnati, Sep 19, 20, 22 (2d game), 23, 1992.
