Baseball Trivia (General)/Dodgers 1955

Question
Hello,
I have an old Zippo lighter that is engraved "Dodgers 1955" with a crown and world globe beside it. MY question is why does it not say Brooklyn? Could it be another team LOng Island Dodgers?
Thanks

Answer
Ira,

It is definitely not another team named "Dodgers." Any old-time baseball fan can tell you what it means. 1955 was the only time in their history that the Brooklyn Dodgers won the World Series. That year they bean the Yankees in a thrilling seven-game Series. Hence the crown and globe for their being the world champions. As to why "Brooklyn" is not engraved on the lighter, who knows? (Maybe not enough space?) But there's no question of its meaning.

Cheers,
Tom
