Question
Steve,

My workmates and I were marveling over the fact that many NFL coaches have never played in the Professional ranks.  We were wondering how many if any MLB Managers are not ex MLB players?

If you know the answer to this question we sure would appreciate the conversation piece.

Thanks

Reggie

Answer
The following four managers NEVER PLAYED major league ball:

Jack McKeon:Florida
Dave Miley: Cincinnati
Carlos Tosca: Toronto
Buck Showalter: Texas

All the rest played MLB ball -- some only a few games (Jimy Williams: 14) others played many years (Frank Robinson, Larry Bowa, Felipe Alou, Phil Garner.)
