Baseball Trivia (General)/Homeplate - Brooklyn Dodgers
Expert: Steve L - 8/8/2004
QuestionHello, Steve!
My family was in the city a few years ago and looked for the sight of the old Ebbetts Field. I am writing a book of history and trivia, called the Bubba Book of Knowledge and wanted to know if the homeplate was left near some apartments. Are they called the Ebbetts Field Apartments? We were at the Coney Island Park, and from the wooden roller coaster, drove down Flatbush Avenue. How far was the stadium from the roller coasters, or how far down Flatbush?
I am from Tennessee, lived in Baltimore, and love the Braves and Orioles, but nothing takes the place of the old historical parks. I miss those Bums.
Thanks,

AnswerHello from New York, Thom!
Delighted that you have such an interest in "my" Dodgers!
Unfortunately, nothing remains of old Ebbets Field, including home plate. Two years after the park was torn down, the Ebbets Field Apartments were erected on the site, which is about 8-1/2 miles down Bedford Avenue from the Coney Island roller coasters.
You might find it interesting to visit www.baseball-fever.com and click on the Brookyn Dodgers Forum. A group of us gather there to reminisce about those days, and I'm sure you'll find answers to many of your questions.
Those of us who were blessed to have lived through that glorious era miss them too.
Thanks for asking.
