Baseball Trivia (General)/Leaving Gloves on the Field

Question
I've heard that players used to leave their gloves on the field when they'd go into bat. Was it so that the other team could use them or for some other reason.

Answer
Tracey,

I remember seeing players do this in the old Southern Association in the 1950s. Each outfielder had his own glove. It was just a matter of convenience to leave it out by your position rather than bring it in to the dugout and then back again.
